History

We started noWax on a whim back in 2003. It took off quite sharply and took us a little by surprise.

People all over the place started wanting to put on their own one, so we let them.

All the other hosts called it noWax and we put their nights on the one website and did mail-outs announcing the next parties.

We started writing about digital music in a weekly newsletter which got up to a subscription level of 2,500

The Original Concept

Want to DJ?
Bring Your MP3 Player
Take a Ticket
Wait Your Turn
Play Your Tunes

noWax parties are friendly events where people come together to share music. The nights are eclectic to say the least, so leave any judgements at the door along with any attitude. Every noWax is different and the vibe is usually dictated by the host and punters. If you want to play, just take a ticket from the host and wait your turn.

A little bit of history…

The first noWax was held in a bar called DreamBagsJaguarShoes in the heart of Shoreditch, London, on the 3rd July 2003. With little press and limited promotion, the name and reputation soon spread.

Now an international phenomenon, noWax events have been held in London, Manchester, Cardiff, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Vienna and even Tokyo. Anyone can host a noWax event of their own by signing up as a host on the noWax website.

Having run for over three years noWax has now received an unprecedented amount of press, including BBC, The Evening Standard, Metro, Time Out, The Guardian, The Independent, Mac Format and Mixmag to name a few. We have also had enormous exposure on the web in about a dozen languages and even a slot on Swiss Radio.

If youd like to get in touch with the noWax crew you can email info AT noWax.co.uk. Were always open to new ideas and suggestions.

Some tips if you’re coming to a noWax

noWax events are friendly events where people come together to share music. The nights are eclectic to say the least, so leave any judgements at the door along with any attitude. Every noWax is different and the vibe is usually dictated by the host and punters.

If you want to play, just take a ticket from the host and wait your turn. Lately some noWaxes have got quite busy so if you want to guarantee your slot get there early.

Lastly, as the sound systems in some venues vary, a good thing to do is to boost the volume of your MP3 player so you know it’ll be loud enough. You can find your own software updates and hacks on the web but we’ve included a couple here for iPods that we know work.
