We started noWax on a whim back in 2003. It took off quite sharply and took us a little by surprise.

People all over the place started wanting to put on their own one, so we let them.

All the other hosts called it noWax and we put their nights on the one website and did mail-outs announcing the next parties.

We started writing about digital music in a weekly newsletter which got up to a subscription level of 2,500

Apple were targeting people using the term Podcast trying to stop them or extract fees, claiming ownership of the term. It now seems that they have backed out. Thankfully this lunacy has stopped.

In October when Dave Gray, one of the hosts of TPN’s GlobalGeek podcast, sent a letter to Apple with a cheque for $1 for using the term ‘podcast’. Well he recently got a reply claiming that Apple had no hold over the word. Read the fuller letter here.
