History

We started noWax on a whim back in 2003. It took off quite sharply and took us a little by surprise.

People all over the place started wanting to put on their own one, so we let them.

All the other hosts called it noWax and we put their nights on the one website and did mail-outs announcing the next parties.

We started writing about digital music in a weekly newsletter which got up to a subscription level of 2,500

Are Your Metrics Critical?

logoCritical Metrics is a music and review aggregator that’s a bit like the Hype Machine. It finds reviews of music and actual files and collects them together. The main difference is that it gets these from very trusted sources – NME, Mojo, Rolling Stone, Stereo Gum and other such tastemakers. I’m not sure why noWax isn’t up there! Awaiting insulting comments! It does all this quite nicely and of course you can listen to all the tracks either on the site or on a pop-out player. There are (naturally) YouTube videos in there too.

This is a pretty new service and it looks like they are still in the early stages of what they’re trying to do. And although all of the graphics are in ‘John Major’ grey the functionality is good. Their logo is better than one else’s in this space and you don’t need to sign up to use the service, which is nice. After all, does anyone need anymore log-ins? This one’s one to watch.

thanks for the kind words! your volume (of track reviews) is a little lower than most publications we have added, but we’ll put you in the queue!
