Steve Rubs His Hands Again
By Charlie | April 2nd, 2007 in News |Goddamn Steve Jobs is a sneaky one. An announcement today states that The iTunes Music Store (2.5 Billion sales to date) will begin selling higher quality DRM free tracks (from EMI’s catalogue) in May. Nice U-Turn there then! Not only that but they will cost more than normal tracks. So this means that there will be product tiers with different pricing for the same track within iTunes – again, another u-turn on previous statements.
And in case anyone was wondering you can upgrade your existing DRM enabled MP3s to DRM free ones by paying the difference. So yes, you have to pay again on top of what you have already shelled out! At present the normal tracks will be priced at $0.99 and the higher quality DRM free tracks will be $1.29. More details will emerge nearer the time I imagine.
